SUMMARY:Veterans Day Holy Eucharist with the Presiding Bishop
DESCRIPTION:Episcopalians are invited to join a first-time\, church-wide Veterans Day service to honor those who have served in the military and specially recognize the Episcopal chaplains who support them. \nPresiding Bishop Sean Rowe will preside\, and the Rt. Rev. Ann Ritonia\, bishop suffragan for the church’s Armed Forces and Federal Ministries\, will preach. The service will include a special “commissioning for further service” of chaplains who serve military veterans in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. \nNext year marks the 250th anniversary of military chaplaincy within The Episcopal Church. The Rev. John Hurt\, an Episcopal minister\, began serving as a chaplain in the Continental army in 1776. Today\, more than 100 Episcopal priests serve as chaplains across the Armed Forces\, Veterans Administration medical centers\, and federal correctional institutions. \nThe Veterans Day service will include recorded readings from military veterans and personnel around the world; prayers written by veterans; music from the Washington National Cathedral; and more. \n“This service marks a new chapter in our commitment to walk with veterans—not only in remembrance\, but in enduring relationship and hope\,” Ritonia said. “If you have a veteran in your life\, I encourage you to share about this service and invite them to maybe watch it with you.” \nThe livestream—from the Chapel of Christ the Lord in New York City—will air on The Episcopal Church’s website\, Facebook page\, and YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:Communities for Spiritual Vitality Information Session
DESCRIPTION:The Communities for Spiritual Vitality is an initiative of gratitude\, hope\, and joy offered as a source of renewal for laity with roles of leadership or service in parishes with part-time or shared clergy support. It is grounded in cultivating yearlong relationships of support\, fellowship\, formation\, and FUN with peers\, supported by the companionship of clergy facilitators. The Communities now invites inquirers for a new cohort\, scheduled for January 2026 – January 2027. \nThe Communities cohort offers three primary components for each participant: \n\nIn-person gatherings: three in-person retreats per year\, at no cost to participants\nInter-parish formation group: regular zoom meetings with a small cohort of participants and a clergy facilitator\nCoaching and Spiritual Direction: three individual coaching/spiritual direction meetings with a clergy facilitator\n\nThrough the year\, participants learn\, practice\, and share within a community of support. Topics explored will include scripture\, self-care\, hope\, grief/loss\, prayer practice\, rule of life\, and nourishing relationship with God in the midst of our lives. Those who wish then participate in crafting a second year of engagement with one another as a way to deepen friendships and explore how to bring these forms of spirituality back to their parish. \nThis grant-funded initiative is a gift of intensive support for lay leaders who carry so much and hunger for a deeper relationship with God and one another. A Zoom information session is scheduled for Thursday\, Nov. 20\, 6-7:30 p.m. Interested lay leaders should email communities@diovermont.org to indicate their interest in the cohort and to receive the Zoom meeting invitation for the Information Session.

SUMMARY:Advent Study Offering: Five-Week Course on Matthew's Gospel
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to join a group at St Margaret’s\, Belfast for a free\, online and in-person short course on Matthew’s Gospel\, which is the focus of Lectionary readings for Year A starting in Advent 2025. \n \nMatthew’s Gospel is the first in the canon—that is\, the 27 books of the New Testament. It is one of four New Testament gospels\, through which we learn about Jesus and his followers. Matthew’s focus is on Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament)\, a grounding with which Matthew’s audience is very familiar\, but which we as Episcopalians are not. A Jewish text written after the destruction of the Second Temple in Jerusalem in the war against Rome in 66-70CE\, Matthew wrote intending to present contours of Judaism in the context of that catastrophe for Jewish followers of Jesus. \nTo join the course or if you have questions\, please email the instructor\, Canon Deirdre Good\, for a course outline and online materials before Nov. 21. \nCanon Deirdre Good\, Th.D.\, a parishioner of St Margaret’s\, and a licensed lay preacher in the diocese\, taught New Testament and Christian Origins at the General Theological Seminary in New York City for 28 years.
