Sunday, November 24, 2019, 09:00am

Please join us after the 9 am worship service in the parish hall to make an Advent Wreath for your home.  All supplies will be provided, greens, a base for the wreaths, candles, weekly prayers to be said at home, and great company.  The Reverend Donna Downs will demonstrate how to make the wreaths.  Suggested donation $5.00.
Lighting the Advent Wreath in the Tradition of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.   Advent marks the start of the Church year and begins four Sundays before Christmas.  It is a time of waiting, and like any beginning, it holds expectation and promise.  During the Advent season we wait for the coming of Jesus on Christmas Day.
In the ancient world, various peoples lit fires to mark the turning of the light into winter's season and to pray for the return of the light.  Long ago the people in Northern Europe made the first wreaths, bending evergreen branches, a symbol of everlasting life, into a circle, which having no beginning and no end - represents eternity.  To us, these candles are signs of the growing light of Christ who is coming again in all fullness into the darkness of our world.
Advent is about preparing ourselves for Christ's birth.  Yes, it is about gathering with family and friends to exchange gifts, and enjoy holiday meals. My prayer is that you will not exhaust yourselves in the preparation for Christmas and pray for the holidays to be over.  Please move thoughtfully and prayerfully through Advent seeking God's presence in the world and in your life.  What is God up to in your life and community?
