Indigineous Peoples' Day Diocesan Worship
Sunday, October 11, 2020
Save the date - on October 11, there will be a Celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day with Diocesan-wide Worship!
In 2019 the state of Maine enacted legislation to replace Columbus Day with a celebration of Indigenous People. This year our diocesan Racial Justice Commission is pleased to offer a Diocesan-wide worship service for October 11th, in celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
In collaboration with the Committee on Indian Relations, the Justice Commission of the Diocese of Maine, we will provide a pre-recorded worship service (and service bulletin) for use by parishes in the diocese. Parishes are invited to make use of the materials/video as works best for you, whether that is sharing the service as a whole, just the sermon, using the worship materials, etc.
As we prepare for this celebration and recognition of our Indigenous Ancestors on this land - we encourage you to learn more about the land on which you live and worship. Check out this map to discover more about the land beneath your feet.
