Ecumenical Relations

Ms. Elizabeth Ring, Ecumenical Officer

"Ecumenical" means the whole inhabited world. As people of our Faith Community it is our responsibility and privilege to bear witness to God's love for all people in the way we live our faith as followers of Christ.

The work of Ecumenical Relations is guided by the Lund Principle as affirmed by General Convention in 1976, the Chicago-Lambeth Quadrilateral of 1888, and the various documents of our bilateral and multilateral dialogues. The chief Ecumenical and Inter-religious Officer of a diocese is the Bishop. The designated Ecumenical and Inter-religious Officers work as associates to the bishop to empower the work of Christian unity and inter-religious collegiality within the Diocese and to work in concert with the Ecumenical and Inter-religious Officers of all the dioceses of The Episcopal Church.

The Episcopal Church by action of the 1976 General Convention affirmed the Lund Principle as follows: "that the Episcopal Church at every level of its life be urged to act together and in concert with other churches of Jesus Christ in all matters except those in which deep differences of conviction or church order compel us to act separately."
