AKIN TO A BAPTISM - Personal Reflection
Labor Day Weekend, thousands of new college students moved onto campuses across the country. Here in Maine, students and families were greeted by clouds and pouring rain. As a campus chaplain, standing in the rain helping to welcome students and parents, I began to think that it was a type of baptism.
The students are being welcomed into the community of the campus, much like we are all welcomed into the community of Christ at our baptism. Certainly in each instance, our lives are changed forever. Also, in each instance we find ourselves drawn to something greater than ourselves. It then becomes our choice as to what happens next - do we grow into our covenant and deepen our relationship with the community or quickly replace it with "worldly" things.
I offer my deepest prayers for and blessings over the students, faculty and staff that are starting another academic year. May your teaching and learning be used to grow in your covenant to uplift the world.

FAITH IN ACTION
Faith in Action is at the heart of the Episcopal Chaplaincy. This winter, the Chaplain and student organizations on campus will bring the One Campaign to campus once again. Students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to learn how they can play an active role in ending world poverty and AIDS/HIV. There will be additional opportunities to learn ways in we can use the teachings of our faith traditions to uplift the world.
